Willie
The Furever Story of Willie and Dixie
We are happy to say that our furever home needed us as much as we needed them…
Our new mom and dad had broken hearts because last August they had to say good bye to their bestest friend of 13 years…Tee a chocolate lab they got when he was six weeks old. Then in September our new mom and dad’s house got 4 feet of water from bad old Ike…
So you can see they were very sad and alone.
I came first, Willie…I had a broken heart also because someone had just dropped me off and I thought no one would ever love me again…Boy was I wrong!! I went to my new home after being with my foster my Jill who loved me and got me ready for my furever home. Wasn’t too sure about these two new people in my life, but it didn’t take me long to get use to them. They fed me and let me sleep in the bed with them so I could feel safe again.
It didn’t take my new mom and dad long to know I needed a sister or a brother, I was feeling good and running and needed someone to keep me out of trouble during the day.
That is when we got Dixie, my sister. It seems that Dixie’s owner was no long able to take care of her and she had heartworms so she stayed with her Foster Dad Glen who fell in love with her, until she was well enough to come and live with us…just look at Dixie’s face and you will see why anyone could fall in love with my new sister.
Now we are one big happy family. Dixie sleeps in the middle of the bed at the top and I sleep curled up at the bottom. We have a doggy door so we can go in and out all day long, lay in the sun and then come back in for water. We get to play with toys, all the kids in the neighborhood, and other new family members that come to visit. We even have friends that have two labs that let us go play at their house…so you can see that our story is a real happily ever after tail (doggy that is)…
My new mom, dad, Dixie and I want to give a great big thank you to Bassett Buddies for putting all of us together..
All our love,
Connie, Lew, Willie and Dixie Gagneaux
Holly
After I nursed my pups to independence, I needed to escape my bad situation. I ran away to I-10 and Bingle where a kind individual picked me up and brought me to a local shelter. I was then transferred to Basset Buddies Rescue. When my foster family picked me up, I was 15 lbs underweight and so tired and scared that I wouldn’t even make eye contact with them. I would always roll over in submission. I soon discovered my foster family was great (they fed me good meals, listened to music, and did I tell you about the treats?), so I decided they were going to adopt me. Over a short period of time, I won over my mom, but that was easy--she is a basset lover. Dad was a little more difficult because he had just lost his dog of 13 years. Being an independent girl, I knew what to do: I stuck to Dad like super glue. I followed him everywhere and showed him the ways of the basset. He likes to smoke cigars, so I knew he needed me to keep him company outside. I really love when he goes to the humidor because I know it's Holly and Daddy time.
Every day is a holiday now. I have had several foster brothers that I have helped teach how to be adorable and find a furever family. I know my family loves me. In fact, they just gave me some very special organically grown chicken breast treats! My favorite! Thank you Basset Buddies for helping me find my furever family.

Jack
We fostered many bassets, and adopted Riley from the fostering process. We were ready to take a break, plus I needed to work. The last pair of dogs went to their furever home and Mr. Riley was upset. No more 4 legged friends coming and going to share his toys with! Then we received an emergency call for a pick-up in our area from a previous adoption. This basset was named Jack and he needed to see the vet. He had a clean bill of health and Mike fell in love with him!! So we adopted "Fred" that day! Riley and Fred have been friends ever since. We are so happy to have helped Basset Buddies Rescue of Texas and give two bassets their furever home.
Fostering was a great joy. To pick up an animal who was abused, starved, and sick, then the joy when their health is back and they are adopted! Fostering is very rewarding!
Thank you!!!!!

Dozer
Hi Everyone!
Just wanted to drop you a line to tell you how wonderful Dozer is!! He has really fit in well with his new brother and sister. He has some strange habits, but don't we all?! He loves to take shoes, watches, pens (anything he can get hold of) and puts them in his bed with him. He doesn't chew them or even rough-house with them, I think he just likes to collect things. We always know where to find a missing shoe or sock.....hahaha!
Glen and his wife did a terrific job fostering Dozer, and we can't thank them enough!
He has his own spot on the bed - stretched out across the entire bed; and we have a KING SIZE BED.
Thanks again, BBR! Dave and I already had a happy family - but Dozer adds more pleasure. I have attached some pictures for you!
Thank You,
Lori and Dave N.
Newman
We have had Newman almost a year now (March 25th is his 1 year b-day with us). We just love him. We are fun and crazy, so he fits in perfectly. Newman has his lazy days, but also has days that he is a bundle of energy where he does his "frantic running" in the house. It is very comical and you better move out of the way or he might just take you out because he can't stop in time. He has provided many hours of laughter for us...he is just so silly.
